SEN Teaching Assistant Work in Coventry, 1:1 and Small Group Work

Trust doesn't arrive on day one. It builds in small ways, like a pupil saving you a seat on the carpet, or choosing you to show their drawing to first. For a child who finds school hard, that bond is often what makes learning possible. It needs the same adult, day after day.

Sprint Education Recruitment places SEN Teaching Assistants into long-term roles in primary, secondary and alternative provision settings across Coventry and nearby parts of Warwickshire, including Bedworth, Nuneaton, Rugby and Kenilworth. Depending on the school, the work could be 1:1 or small group support for students with additional needs. We're speaking to SEN Teaching Assistants now so we can match them to long-term roles as they come up. Registering your interest doesn't commit you to anything.

Some of the pupils you might support find school hard in ways that show up as distress, refusal or, at times, physical behaviour. Before you start any role, we'll talk you through what it involves, how the school approaches behaviour and who you'd go to for support.

What SEN Teaching Assistant work involves

• Working 1:1 with a pupil, or with a small group, over a term or longer
• Following agreed strategies for communication, learning and regulation, and noticing what's working
• Staying calm and steady when a pupil is dysregulated, using the school's behaviour approach
• Supporting routines such as arrival, lunchtime and moving between lessons
• Using tools like visual timetables, now-and-next boards or a quiet space when a pupil needs one
• Sharing observations with the class teacher and SENCO so everyone's working from the same picture
• Helping in the wider classroom when a pupil you support attends part-time

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in a school setting, such as a Teaching Assistant, LSA or similar role
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, including autism, ADHD, SEMH or speech and language needs (6+ months experience in a school setting is ideal)
• A calm, consistent approach that doesn't take behaviour personally
• Training such as Team Teach or Makaton is valued, though not essential
• A Psychology, Education or related degree is welcome alongside practical experience, but isn't required
• Availability for full-time, long-term work, and the ability to travel across Coventry and nearby Warwickshire
• The right to work in the UK

Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position is previous experience working in a school setting.
