Experienced CNC Miller Machinist - Leading Hand

Location: Rugby

Salary: £36,000 - £39,000 DOE + £2,500 Leading Hand allowance

Type: Permanent

Are you an experienced CNC Miller looking for your next challenge, with the opportunity to take on additional responsibility within the workshop?

We are currently recruiting for an established and growing precision engineering company based in Rugby, supplying high-quality components to a range of industries including aerospace, automotive, oil & gas and general engineering.

Due to continued growth and investment in technology, they are looking for an experienced CNC Miller Machinist to join their team.

This is primarily a hands-on CNC machining position, with the opportunity to take on Leading Hand responsibilities. Previous Leading Hand or supervisory experience is not essential, but candidates with the ability and willingness to take on additional responsibility will be particularly well suited.

The Role

As a CNC Miller, you will be responsible for programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines, producing high-quality precision components to customer specifications.

Alongside your CNC responsibilities, you will have the opportunity to support the smooth running of the workshop by taking on a range of Leading Hand duties, helping to coordinate the shop floor and ensure production runs efficiently.

Key CNC responsibilities include:

• Program, set and operate CNC milling machines
• Online programming using G-code
• Work with Fanuc / Mill Plus controls
• Machine components using 4-axis milling
• Read and interpret engineering drawings
• Work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
• Carry out setting and prove-out of jobs
• Troubleshoot machining and production issues
• Work efficiently and use your own initiative
• Maintain a high standard of quality and productivity

Leading Hand responsibilities include:

• Liaise closely with the Shop Floor Manager to support daily production requirements
• Allocate tasks and work to members of the shop floor team
• Assist with material coordination to ensure jobs are ready for production
• Support process optimisation and identify opportunities to improve efficiency
• Assist with troubleshooting machining, production and workflow issues
• Help ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards

Previous Leading Hand experience is desirable but not essential. The company is looking for someone with the technical ability, initiative and communication skills to step into this additional responsibility.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• 10+ years' CNC milling experience
• Strong experience programming, setting and operating CNC milling machines
• Experience with Fanuc controls and Mill Plus
• Strong knowledge of G-code / online programming
• Experience working with 4-axis CNC milling
• Ability to confidently read and interpret engineering drawings
• A strong technical and engineering background
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Strong attention to detail
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload
• Good communication and organisational skills
• The ability or willingness to take on Leading Hand responsibilities
